Breaks Actimeter: A Game-Changer for Animal Research

The actimeter, a device used to quantify animal activity, is an essential tool in many scientific research studies. However, my department had only one actimeter available, and it was outdated. As a neuroscience master's student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, I needed a reliable system for easy and rapid drug screening and phenotype characterisation.

That's when I discovered the BIOSEB Infrared (IR) Actimeter, which allowed me to study spontaneous locomotor activity, rearings, and hole-board test parameters for exploration in rodents. The IR Actimeter is composed of a 2-dimensional frame with 32 IR cells, out of which 16 cells are on the X-axis and 16 cells are on the Y-axis.

I was impressed by the instrument's control panel, which displays the number of beam brakes by animal on all axes and total of all in both actimeter and hole board mode. This feature enabled me to quickly collect data and make accurate measurements.

The IR Actimeter has been a game-changer for my research. With this device, I can easily test potential drug compounds that could modify behavior in mice. The system is also robust and reliable, allowing me to conduct studies in both day and night lighting conditions.

In addition to the IR Actimeter, I have also had the opportunity to work with the Sleepware G3 platform, which is a robust software solution designed for busy sleep labs. This platform has enhanced functionality that helps me meet my business and workflow needs more efficiently.

Overall, the BIOSEB Infrared (IR) Actimeter has been an invaluable tool in my research, allowing me to collect accurate data and make meaningful contributions to the field of neuroscience.
